The Mortgage Processor is responsible for managing the loan application process from start to finish. This includes verifying applicant information, collecting required documentation, ensuring compliance with lending guidelines, and coordinating communication between borrowers, Loan Officers, Underwriters, and closing department. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
JOB DUTIES:
- Review loan applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Collect and verify borrower financial documents, including income verification, tax returns, credit reports, and asset documentation.
- Ensure all documentation meets the standards of the lender and is compliant with federal, state, and industry regulations.
- Communicate with borrowers, loan officers, underwriters, and other parties to gather additional information or clarify discrepancies.
- Coordinate the ordering of necessary third-party services, such as appraisals, title reports, and verifications.
- Submit loan packages to the underwriter for review and/or approval.
- Monitor the loan pipeline to ensure deadlines are met and loan files are processed in a timely manner.
- Assist in resolving issues that arise during the loan process to facilitate loan approval.
- Keep detailed notes in the loan origination system (LOS) and ensure files are properly documented.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in mortgage regulations and lender guidelines.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL SET:
- High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience in mortgage processing or a related field.
- Strong understanding of mortgage loan types, including FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional loans.
- Proficiency in using Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and mortgage software.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with underwriting guidelines.
- Knowledge of federal and state mortgage regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA, TRID).
- Experience working with automated underwriting systems (AUS) like DU/LP.
