Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director, Community Services
DIVISION: Community Services
SUPERVISOR: Senior Director, Adult Enrichment and Special Projects
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
PURPOSE:
Coordinate and assist with program development and administration within HCBS. Monitor regulatory standards to assure services remains in compliance.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Monitor, track, and ensure staff remain in training compliance for Day and Community Services. Schedule staff for trainings as needed.
2. Assist with development of departmental training programs to continue to develop quality staff.
3. Assist the Director of Community Services, to monitor and evaluate the instructional activities being provided to all clients within Community Services.
4. Assist the Director of Community Services in curriculum development, including but not limited to creating lesson plans, researching engaging activities, and working with staff to carry out the lesson plans to clients in a meaningful way.
5. Assist the Director of Community Services with fostering community partnerships that will provide meaningful and engaging activities for clients.
6. Provide assistance in scheduling to maximize billing utilization.
7. Monitor and document staff PTO, medical time off, and leaves of absence.
8. Assist with investigations and ensure investigations are conducted fairly and in a timely manner.
9. Ensure clients satisfaction surveys and quarterly classroom observations are completed regularly and assist in monitoring client’s engagement.
10. Serve as a liaison between clients receiving services, staff, families, case managers, residential providers, and the community.
11. Develop and participate in monthly staff meetings.
12. Display patience in all situations involving clients. Speak in an even, positive, and personal tone of voice when conversing with clients.
13. Assist, as needed, with client’s behaviors and ensure staff redirect clients appropriately.
14. Maintain confidentiality of clients.
15. Ensure that employees follow all departmental and agency policies as well as state and federal laws.
16. Assist with disciplinary concerns and implement required discipline for DSP’s.
17. Interview and hire DSP’s for the clients as needed.
18. Assist with client’s intake process.
19. Complete incident reports, including BDDS, and needed follow-ups as needed.
20. Promote agency philosophies, generate team spirit, create, and maintain an environment that fosters employee satisfaction, maximized productivity, and profitability.
21. Participate in annual and quarterly meetings for clients as needed.
22. Complete duties as delegated by the Regional Director of Community Services.
23. Must be able to care for the physical needs of clients including feeding, hygiene, and toileting. Must be capable of assisting in physically transferring/moving clients when needed. Physical activities may include, but not limited to lifting up 25-50 pounds, bending, stretching, grasping, visual acuity, walking, squatting, guiding, and transporting.
24. Use of medical adaptive equipment including, but not limited to, wheelchair, Hoyer lift, shower chair, blood sugar testing equipment if required.
25. Perform public relation or information activities for the agency, locally, and statewide.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:
1. Excellent and professional communication skills, both oral and written.
2. Ability to perform budgeting calculation and comparisons.
3. Must possess critical thinking skills.
4. Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
5. Comply with ethical standards of DSI, FSSA, and other governing bodies.
6. Ability to work flexible, non-standard hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
7. Must possess excellent telephone skills.
8. Ability to effectively operate equipment such as a scanner and copier and have a working knowledge of computers and related software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
9. Must have the ability to successfully work in both independent and group settings.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Special Education, SPEA, or related field.
2. Three years of related experience, preferred.
3. Must possess or be able to obtain CPR, NCI, and First Aid certification annually and perform as necessary.
4. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
5. Maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with Medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
