Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Center Coordinator
DIVISION: Early Childhood Services
SUPERVISOR: Education Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
PURPOSE:
In partnership with families, staff and peers, provide a safe and inclusive educational setting for all children. Encourage staff to promote families in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children. Provide guidance and support to staff and families about positive mental health practices. Directly supervises all classroom staff.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Ensure the safety of all children in an assigned group and maintain sight and sound at all times. Schedule classrooms with consistent and trained professionals to ensure continuity of care.
2. Create a warm, clean, and accepting environment that is inclusive of all children’s needs. Provide a welcoming atmosphere for all families, volunteers, community representatives, and staff. Mentor and encourage teachers, assistants, substitutes, and volunteers by providing guidance and instruction on daily routines and procedures. Ensure classroom teachers are offering an “open door” policy with a welcoming environment by utilizing positive customer service skills.
3. Ensure the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum in classrooms. Ensure that activities are child led, play based, goal-oriented, and meet fidelity requirements. Schedule time for staff to participate in professional development opportunities that support education, curriculum, and behavior management, among other topics. Offer suggestions and counseling to staff in order to best support the teacher and classroom needs.
4. Abide by program philosophies on parent engagement and parent participation. Actively participate in planning and implementing parent engagement opportunities. Support staff in offering family engagement opportunities in the classroom. Counsel staff on positive communication strategies when working with families.
5. Appropriately communicate with families both verbally and in writing. Provide families with resources and referrals to community agencies as needed. Complete, track, and follow-up with referrals made for families. Follow up on families questions and concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
6. Model appropriate language and behavior for children, staff, volunteers, and families.
7. Report any health, social, or crisis needs of the child or family to management as needed. Document accordingly. Document staff and parent concerns and follow up accordingly.
8. Attend all meetings and trainings as required to meet state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:
1. Must be able to hold and move small children weighing 5-50 pounds.
2. Must be able to move and play with small children indoors and outdoors, including routine tasks such as diaper changing and feeding.
3. Must be willing to travel with personal or agency vehicles in all conditions.
4. Comply with regulatory health requirements, including: providing documentation of an annual physical within 30 days of hire and every five (5) years thereafter; and an annual TB test.
5. Display an overall commitment to the agency and program’s mission, values, and vision while maintain a positive, professional image.
6. Adhere to all plans, policies, and procedures of Bona Vista Programs and the early childhood department.
7. Perform all required documentation and reports and submit in a timely manner.
8. Assist with additional duties when directed by management.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. AA in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education with ECE endorsement, or related field with equivalent study is required.
2. Two years’ experience in early childhood programs, working with children 0-5 years is required.
3. Supervision or management experience is preferred.
4. Must be at least 21 years of age.
5. Maintaining a valid Indiana driver’s license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with Medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance is required.
6. Must have or be able to obtain CPR certification and First Aid certification.
7. General knowledge of child development, nutrition, health, and safety is preferred.
8. Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
