Devens School Therapeutic Intervention Specialist (TIS)
Nature and Scope of Work:
The Therapeutic Intervention Specialist (TIS) provides therapeutic behavior management
support for emotionally and behaviorally challenged students. Responsibilities include: crisis
intervention; writing and implementing behavior plans; writing or contributing to the writing of
Functional Behavioral Assessments; consultation with general education staff; providing student
support during lunch, recess, transitions and academic periods; and working collaboratively with
teachers, administrators and all other school staff. Familiarity with positive, strengths based
interventions, and previous experience working in a therapeutic milieu is essential, along with
certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) as administered by Cornell
University and delivered by the Everett Public Schools.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Provides committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and
strength based treatment
2. Implementation of student behavioral plans and monitoring the students’ progress
3. Works with the school based team of professionals who are overseeing the student’s plan
4. Assists with student evaluations and revising and updating behavioral plans
5. Communicates with supervisors on a scheduled basis regarding issues pertaining to the
status of students
6. Assists in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments
7. Assists in developing student specific behavioral plans
8. Attends all student related meetings
9. Implements the student specific behavioral plans
10. Collects data with regard to student progress
11. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Principal, or Vice-Principal
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's or Master’s degree in education or a related field
2. Two plus years of experience as a child behavioral specialist in a therapeutic milieu and
direct behavioral support to school personnel and knowledge and capability Therapeutic

3. ABA training is preferred, but not required
4. Experience in working with parents
5. Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively
6. Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely
7. Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment
8. Must understand child development, and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and
learning disabilities
9. Must understand issues of confidentiality
10. Must be receptive to supervision and professional development
11. Ability to work and stand for extended periods of time
12. Ability to safely restrain students in accordance with TCIS standards
Working Time:
Days and hours will be the same as those for professional staff as stated in the Collective
Bargaining Agreement between the Everett Teachers Association and Everett School Committee
