BASIC ACCOUNTABILITY
The Petrophysicist, under minimal supervision, performs multifaceted duties related to conducting single well and multi well petrophysical evaluations. Integrates log interpretation with core analysis, rock mechanics, cuttings descriptions and facies interpretation. Collaborate with peer petro professionals to characterize and communicate reservoir attributes to management, primarily for unconventional and resource plays. With team, review and recommend participation in new or developing plays, as well as review and recommend acquisitions.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Geophysical Sciences, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering
EXPERIENCE
Requires a minimum of 5 years of related industry experience in Petrophysics
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Within an integrated team setting, provide formal analysis of integrated rock, log, and other geoscience and engineering data to accurately characterize conventional and unconventional reservoir intervals and quantify potential for exploration and acquisition opportunities
* Engage with geoscientists, engineers and outside vendors to advise on and prepare plans for data acquisition and well appraisal that meet objectives for resource project and play assessment; conduct bids for services as required
* Proactively collaborate with integrated asset team to progress subsurface characterization of prospective intervals, develop subsurface appraisal plans, and support advanced development optimization reservoir studies, in support of corporate and departmental objectives
* Work in partnership with broader Devon Petrophysical team to develop and enhance petrophysical models for analysis of unconventional resources and all other aspects of workflow
* Create petrophysical worflows to further develop petrophysical models and integrate advanced core data analysis
* As needed, serve as a mentor to peers and less experienced employees by providing guidance and develoment; conduct and organize training sessions for petro professionals as needed
* Document and file all relevant project related information, including workflows
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Proficiency and ability to advise on core calibrated petrophysical workflows, including development of core collection and sampling recommendations, routine and advanced core analysis workflows, and core to log calibrations
* Intermediate to advanced level computer skills, including Microsoft Office products; proficiency in IP and/or TechLog preferred
* Intermediate to advanced python coding skills preferred; proficiency in analytical software, such as Spotfire
* Strong organizational skills, ability to effectively prioritize work, and progress multiple projects / well sets simultaneously
* Knowledge in applied regional mapping, reservoir fluid properties, applied hydrodynamics, current stratigraphic correlation and structural concepts
* Strong interpersonal skills, with a desire to work in a collaborative team environment while also progressing work independently to meet goals
* Able to think strategically, using imagination and foresight to conceptualize potential problems and possible solutions
* Experience in horizontal drilling, completion, and simulation technology is preferred
* Permian Basin experience preferred
