Job Title: Pit Excavator Operator
Job Summary:
The Pit Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an excavator in a pit or quarry. This role involves excavating, loading, and moving materials such as dirt, gravel, sand, and rock while following safety regulations and operational guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate an excavator to dig, load, and move materials in a Quarry.
- Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure proper functioning and report any mechanical issues.
- Follow proper excavation techniques to optimize material extraction while minimizing environmental impact.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following proper protocols.
- Monitor surrounding areas for obstacles, personnel, and hazards to prevent accidents.
- Load trucks efficiently and maintain proper weight distribution.
- Maintain accurate records of materials moved and equipment usage.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, truck drivers, and other pit personnel.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on the excavator.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Prior experience operating excavators, preferably in a quarry, construction site, or material pit.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, maps, and site plans.
- Physical ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience operating other heavy equipment (bulldozers, loaders, haul trucks).
- Understanding of soil types, excavation techniques, and material handling.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work in a material pit or quarry setting.
- Exposure to loud machinery, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires sitting, standing, and operating heavy equipment for extended periods.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 65 per week
