Responsibilities
A "Cardiology PACS Architect" is a healthcare IT professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) specifically for a cardiology department, ensuring efficient image storage, retrieval, and viewing while optimizing workflow and integrating with other clinical systems, requiring a deep understanding of cardiology procedures, imaging modalities, and PACS technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Design and Implementation:
- Analyze cardiology workflow needs to design a PACS architecture that effectively manages cardiac imaging data (echocardiograms, angiograms, stress tests).
- Select and configure appropriate PACS hardware and software components, considering compatibility with existing systems and future needs.
- Implement PACS system, including image acquisition interfaces, storage, and viewing stations, ensuring seamless integration with cardiology equipment.
- Clinical Workflow Optimization:
- Collaborate with cardiologists and other clinical staff to design optimized workflows for image access, interpretation, and reporting.
- Develop custom reporting templates and features to meet specific cardiology clinical requirements.
- Monitor and analyze PACS usage data to identify areas for improvement and implement changes accordingly.
- Technical Maintenance and Support:
- Perform routine system maintenance, including data backups, system upgrades, and security updates.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to image acquisition, storage, and display.
- Coordinate with vendors to resolve technical problems and implement system enhancements.
- User Training and Support:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for cardiology staff on PACS functionality and usage.
- Provide ongoing technical support to users, addressing questions and resolving issues.
- Data Management and Quality Assurance:
- Establish quality control measures to ensure image integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor and manage data storage to optimize capacity and accessibility.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of PACS systems, including image formats, data storage, network infrastructure, and integration capabilities.
- Familiarity with cardiology imaging modalities (echocardiography, coronary angiography, etc.) and related terminology
- Understanding of database management principles
- Clinical Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of cardiology procedures and clinical workflow
- Ability to interpret medical imaging data and identify potential issues
- Experienced radiologic technologist is preferred
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with clinicians, IT staff, and vendors
- Ability to gather requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical specifications
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related field
- Several years of experience working with PACS systems in a healthcare setting, preferably in cardiology
- CIIP Certification
- Relevant certifications in PACS administration or healthcare IT may be benefic
