Position Overview
The Director of Construction will lead the department in executing projects of increasing complexity and sophistication.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to direct a team of project managers, construction managers, technical, administrative, and field staff working on design-build and bid-build construction projects for public and private clients in California.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the business development of the department and will likely act as client manager for one or more public agencies and/or commercial clients.
Main Duties:
- Supervise a staff of project managers, construction managers, technical, administrative, and field staff.
- Lead proposal pursuits, business development efforts, and oversee the growth of the existing construction practice in Southern California.
- Act as client manager and manage one or more clients.
- Review and implement procedures to ensure compliance with relevant policies and performance measures.
- Responsible for operations oversight, reviewing projects assigned to the department to meet revenue and profit goals.
- Participate in quality reviews of department projects.
- Recruit, retain, develop, mentor, train, and grow individual practitioners and teams.
- Staff project teams with the right number and type of skill sets to contribute to successful project delivery.
- Collaborate with other department managers and market segment leads within the Business Unit as well as regional Dewberry leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- At least 15 years of experience in the A/E/C industry.
- Construction and project management experience preferred.
- Design-Build experience is desirable.
- Experience writing winning proposals and leading successful client interviews.
- Demonstrated Business Development expertise with experience in both public works and commercial solicitation/procurement/construction.
- Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership skills preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Occasional travel will be required.
- Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
- Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to pass a driving record background check.
