Become a Part-Time Deckhand for the Dewees Island Ferry!
Dewees Island is seeking a reliable and customer-focused local part-time Deckhand to join our ferry team. The private ferry runs regularly between Isle of Palms and Dewees Island. This role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and working in all weather conditions while providing exceptional service.
What You’ll Do :
Assist the Captain with ferry operations, including handling lines, acting as a lookout, and ensuring passenger safety.
Help passengers load and unload luggage, maintain ferry cleanliness, and monitor passenger access.
Be familiar with emergency procedures, including man overboard and fire response, and be able to operate the ferry if needed.
Provide exceptional customer service by greeting passengers with a positive attitude, assisting with deliveries, and maintaining a professional appearance.
Schedule :
Morning shifts : 5 : 45 am (6 : 45 am on weekends) – 1 : 45 pm.
Evening shifts : 1 : 45 pm – 11 pm (midnight or 1 am on Friday / Saturday nights).
Weekend availability is required.
What We’re Looking For :
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of Coast Guard regulations and boating safety is preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
This position requires a local candidate, as relocation is not an option.
