Job Overview
The Patient Access Specialist will work under the general supervision of an Operations Manager, providing advanced services to patients, providers, and caregivers on behalf of patients for a specific manufacturer-sponsored program or set of programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced services to patients, providers, and caregivers, including but not limited to: billing and coding support, claims assistance, tracking, and submission, prior authorization assistance and tracking, coordination of benefits, benefit verification result calls, welcome calls, advanced alternate coverage research, appeals/denials, intakes, and reporting adverse events as directed.
- Offer exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, resolving requests in a timely and accurate manner, and escalating complaints accordingly.
- Establish themselves as regional experts regarding payer trends and report any reimbursement trends/delays to the management team.
- Process necessary correspondence and coordinate with internal and external service providers to ensure services are performed according to program policy and within expected service level agreements (SLAs).
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient-sensitive information.
- Work on problems of moderate scope, analyzing data and exercising judgment within defined standard operating procedures to determine appropriate action.
Requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of four years of directly related experience in customer service, medical billing and coding, benefits verification, healthcare, business administration, or similar vocations is also required.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred, along with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced customer service experience, effective communication skills, and the ability to build productive internal/external working relationships are essential.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Outlook, and Word is also required, as well as basic analytical skills, advanced organizational skills, and attention to detail.
