Job Summary:
Dexian is seeking a Academic Energy Manager for an opportunity with a client located in Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and prioritize energy savings projects, including lighting upgrades, HVAC upgrades or retro-fits, and other energy conservation measures
- Track and document energy savings initiatives implemented through ongoing efforts to address deferred maintenance. Provide guidance to Regional Directors on energy-efficient practices and strategies for integrating energy savings into their deferred maintenance projects
- Lead the implementation of energy-saving initiatives in collaboration with campus stakeholders
- Research and apply for rebates, grants, or other external funding opportunities for energy efficiency projects
- Work with the Building Controls Director and technicians to perform BAS benchtop reviews and analyze system performance
- Provide recommendations to optimize building controls for energy efficiency
- Support ongoing system upgrades and troubleshooting to enhance building performance
- Coordinate and oversee building recommissioning projects to ensure systems operate as intended
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective measures to improve energy performance
- Develop and maintain systems to track energy savings from completed projects
- Prepare regular reports on energy use, cost savings, and environmental impact for internal stakeholders and external reporting requirements
- Assist with the annual utility budgeting process, providing data analysis and recommendations to forecast energy costs
- Monitor and validate utility invoices to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies
- Partner with campus departments to promote energy conservation practices
- Deliver presentations and training sessions on energy efficiency initiatives and outcomes to faculty, staff, and students
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Master's degree preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in energy management, building automation systems, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in energy conservation measures and building recommissioning
- Experience working with utility data analysis and energy budgeting is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of building automation systems (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, or similar platforms)
- Proficiency in energy modeling tools, utility tracking software, and data visualization platforms
- Familiarity with LEED certification, ENERGY STAR, or other sustainability frameworks is a plus
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Achievement of measurable energy savings through identified projects
- Successful execution of building recommissioning initiatives
- Timely and accurate energy savings tracking and utility budgeting support
- Increased campus awareness of energy efficiency practices and their impacts
