Summary:
Wylie Elementary is seeking a leader with a deep knowledge of early childhood education, high emotional intelligence, and a passion for early childhood education. The ideal candidate will be an effective team builder and collaborator, comfortable with adapting to different leadership situations. They will also serve as an advocate for Wylie Elementary School and Dexter Community Schools, working with all stakeholders to support a shared vision for student education. Previous leadership experience is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Possess Administrative Certification
- Minimum of 3 years experience as an elementary, middle or high school teacher or administrator preferred
- Meet administrator continuing education requirement
- Minimum of a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited institution preferred
- Knowledgeable in use and application of educational technology
- Direct experience with Early Childhood Education preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for all aspects of building operations, including student success, staff performance, and curriculum implementation.
- Conduct ongoing needs assessments to support school improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional programs.
- Continuously evaluate all program elements to ensure alignment with educational standards and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding school services and programs.
- Oversee the development and implementation of building schedules.
- Enforce district and board policies, ensuring adherence by staff and students.
- Supervise all personnel within the building, including teachers, support staff, and service providers.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of certified staff.
- Delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel in the absence of the principal.
- Plan and supervise emergency preparedness programs, including fire, lockdown and tornado drills.
- Maintain high standards for student behavior and enforcing discipline policies effectively.
- Support professional development by assisting in the orientation and training of teachers.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of reports for the Central Administration Office.
- Make recommendations for school administration and instructional improvements.
- Monitor student attendance, conduct, and academic progress while maintaining accurate records.
- Assist in budget preparation and ensure effective financial management of school resources.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and community, fostering engagement and collaboration.
- Communicate concerns or issues to the Superintendent and/or Executive Director of Human Resources as needed.
- Lead staff meetings focused on curriculum, instruction and best practices.
- Develop and enforce guidelines for student behavior and discipline.
- Attend and plan student activities, assemblies, and events.
- Conduct teacher evaluations and make employment recommendations as appropriate.
- Actively participate in school improvement processes and district task forces.
- Manage special projects and attend relevant meetings as assigned.
- Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
- Perform other duties as required to support school and district goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for the direct supervision of all building staff members; certified, instructional and support.
Monitor supervision of visitors and outside contracted service workers working in the building.
