We are searching for an experienced Manufacturing EHS Specialist at our Plant 12 Fremont, IN facility.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Dexter, a premier manufacturer and distributor of axles, suspension, brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts and accessories, and towing components serving the commercial trailer, RV, heavy-duty, marine, agriculture, and manufactured housing markets, has an opportunity for a Manufacturing EHS Specialist (Environmental, Health, Safety) at our manufacturing facility located in Fremont, Indiana .

Not far from Fort Wayne and Auburn, Indiana and nearby Trine University, we are seeking an EHS Specialist with a history of success providing team leadership driving safety initiatives. Must understand OSHA compliance, policies and regulations. This person should be a good communicator, able to build relationships and support from all areas within the production facility as well as cross-functional teams.

  • Seasoned at developing and maintaining a variety of safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures that will ensure all associates are in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Developing, implementing and managing a program to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses, including area assessments, injury investigations and clear, measurable goals.
  • Correcting working conditions, using broad scope of knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and safety standards, develops loss control programs, and devises methods to evaluate safety progresses.
  • Assessing share, and leverage industry EHS best practices across sites.
  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining all Environmental and Safety Management systems in accordance with ISO 14001/ISO 18001, reporting to top management on performance, and recommend improvements.
  • Serving as the interface between local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, corporate and any insurance carrier representatives in order to ensure plant compliance.
  • Managing plant’s environmental and OSHA regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements.
  • Creating and managing budgets for EHS activities including consulting and testing, waste removal, safety equipment, safety recognition activities, etc.
  • Leading investigations on environmental non-compliance, safety non-compliance, and root cause incidents and provide urgent response to operational issues.
  • Leading implementations and use of team implemented problem solving.
  • Conducting site audits and evaluate plant’s compliance with environmental regulations and identify areas of improvements.
  • Implementing environmental solutions and drive changes in manufacturing processes/systems that lead to reduction in environmental waste streams.
  • Managing worker’s compensation claims.
  • Leading safety, health and environmental awareness program trainings

  • Wastewater and storm water management, permitting, compliance, and controls
  • Air emission management, permitting, compliance, and controls
  • Pollution prevention and resource conservation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable degree is required
  • Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in manufacturing industry is required
  • 2 years managing Plant/Production/HSE programs and people.
  • Proven success in creating and implementing HSE compliance and improvement plans.
  • Knowledge of US federal and state regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health and the environment.
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills
