What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Operations Trainee position at DFW International Airport?
Job Overview
Under the instruction of the Driver Training Supervisor or other designated team member, participates in theory and behind-the-wheel (BTW) driver training in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations for Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), with the expectation of achieving a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and moving into the Airport Bus Operator role. Required training must be completed successfully and CDL issued by the State of Texas within six months of employment. Training will also include front-line customer service and transportation of guests for special events, tours, and on the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) to support irregular operations, emergency response, and airline hardstand events.
What you will be doing:
- Provides first-line customer service; assists passengers with information concerning airline and gate locations and on- and off-airport transportation.
- Under instruction of the Driver Training Supervisor or other designated team member, operates a van or bus, when requested by the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) for special events or airport tours, for evacuation of disabled aircraft, or in the event of emergency or disaster.
- Responds to Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) to support irregular operations, emergency response, and airline hardstand events.
- Assists passengers with reduced mobility by providing specialized transportation as required. Completes passenger counts, mileage/time logs, malfunction, and accident reports.
- May be assigned to non-driving roles on the AOA as operations require. Inspects vehicle fleet for proper mechanical operation and physical condition.
- Assists customers with luggage, and locates and retrieves lost items/passengers.
- Responds to customer complaints to customer’s satisfaction within Board operating procedures or refers to Driver Training Supervisor for resolution.
- Responds to customer injuries and emergencies; acts as initial point of contact during these events and relays emergency information to appropriate persons.
- Fuels buses and staff vehicles daily, routinely removes trash/debris from inside vehicles and disposes of it in compliance with DFW Board policies and Federal regulations, routinely drives buses and vans through washing and fueling facilities and cleans vehicle interiors.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you need:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Six (6) months experience in a position requiring extensive public contact.
- Possession of a class C driver’s license.
- Possession Class B Commercial driver’s license with a passenger (P) endorsement or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
- Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security access clearance within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for CBP security access clearance upon each CBP security access renewal.
- This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
- Must maintain a current, unexpired Department of Transportation Medical Certificate (MCSA Form 5876) at all times.
- Must have a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.
