What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ground Transportation Dispatcher position at DFW International Airport?
Job Overview
Under general supervision of the Ground Transportation Manager and the direction of Ground Transportation Lead Dispatchers, directs commercial ground transportation operators to various airport locations to provide equitable opportunity to competing operators and provides airport patrons with adequate access to service at all airport locations.
What you will be doing:
Observes passenger loading areas using closed circuit television monitors to determine number of operators required to adequately serve the public at various airport locations.
Assigns and dispatches regulated commercial operators to various airport passenger loading areas based upon requests from Customer Service Department personnel.
Responds to requests for information from airport patrons and the public regarding ground transportation, parking citations, and Airport facilities; responds to customer complaints about service level or operator behavior by taking statements and forwarding reports to supervisor for further action.
Monitors the behavior of commercial operators for compliance with established codes and regulations and reports violations to supervisor for further action.
Maintains logs, files and records to provide reports detailing unit activity such as number of cabs dispatched, equipment usage and condition, condition of Central Queue facilities, and number and type of customer requests and complaints.
Issues notices of violation to drivers not in compliance with rules and regulations.
Assists in the recovery of lost items or items left in commercial vehicles.
May assist with other duties and responsibilities related to ground transportation operations as assigned.
Assists the Environmental Affairs Department in performing field observations of Airport activities with respect to potential environmental issues and notifies the Environmental Affairs Department of any observations that may have environmental impact.
What you need:
Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
Six (6) months of clerical experience in public contact environment.
Ability to make basic mathematical computations such as addition and subtraction.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons inside and outside the organization.
Ability to deal with angry patrons and accurately record their concerns over the phone.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
Sufficient geographic knowledge of the DFW area.
Ability to give clear and simple directions via radio and telephone to passengers, transportation vendors, and other Board employees.
Ability to deal with commercial operators’ questions or problems while keeping dispatch lines going.
Ability to type where typing for speed and by touch is not required.
Ability to prepare and maintain reports with accuracy.
Ability to work rotating shifts and flexible hours.
Ability to interpret and enforce standard codes and regulations.
Ability to make quick, accurate decisions in the absence of a supervisor.
Ability to anticipate transportation services needs and make appropriate assignments.
Ability to perform primary troubleshooting during computer system failure.
