Seeking an Executive Director

The Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing is searching for a full-time Executive Director to establish our presence and to lead our growth. Opened in July 2017, the Center helps participants cultivate physical and emotional wellbeing through a wide range of programs based on Buddhist ancient wisdom practices.

We seek an Executive Director with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, who can manage the detailed day-to-day operations and nuances in a start-up environment, have the panoramic vision to establish the Center as a premier facility, and create a welcome atmosphere for the guests who come for retreat but also for volunteers, donors, and members of the larger community.

Job Description

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for providing leadership, direction and guidance in all Center activities, to achieve the Center’s strategic goals and maintain its policies. Exhibiting an entrepreneurial, “can do” leadership spirit, the ED is expected to continuously analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of Center efforts in order to meet established programmatic and financial goals, as well as to conduct outreach, develop new revenue sources and plan and implement programming. The ED represents the Center to guests, volunteers, staff, donors, community and civic organizations, external service providers, regulatory bodies, and the general public.

Conveys the Center’s Vision, Mission, Brand Promise and future strategy to guests, staff, volunteers, donors and the broader Dharmakaya community

· Plans, coordinates and directs all Center activities; including but not limited to financial, guest services, physical plant, programming, marketing and outreach initiatives

· Develops, directs and oversees short- and long-term strategic plans

· Ensures that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved within budget

· Submits to the Board a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements

· Develops new revenue sources necessary to support projected growth

· Creates an environment that meets the Center’s Vision, Mission, and Brand Promise, directing or personally managing all aspects of the guest experience

· Acts as the spokesperson for the Center

· Provides leadership to staff and volunteers through goal setting, delegation, and communication

· Maintains a competent and effective staff and volunteer team

· Expands volunteer involvement

· Resolves sensitive situations on an individual basis through phone calls, letters, or personal interactions

· Is fair and objective while performing responsibilities, avoiding any perception of bias or favoritism.

· Protects confidentiality of information and privacy of guests, volunteers and teachers

· Works collaboratively with the Board to achieve Center goals and policies

· Executes Board approved policies and goals

· Recommends to the Board changes to policies and procedures that would improve the Center

· Builds an external presence and brand by deepening and refining all aspects of communications and outreach, from web presence to community relations

· Oversees administrative operations including the establishment of procedures and business standards

· Ensures compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the Center’s role as an employer and non-profit agency

· Submits all information, reports and records as requested or required by law to appropriate government officials or the Board of Directors

Qualifications

· Transparent and high integrity leadership

· Enthusiastic, resilient and thoughtful demeanor required - mission-driven, and self-directed

· Appreciation of diverse spiritual and cultural traditions and respect for each person’s spiritual journey

· Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred or equivalent business and/or non-profit experience

· Five or more years senior management experience that includes P&L accountability - must be able to point to specific examples of having developed strategies that have taken a business unit to the next stage of growth

· Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting

· Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations a plus

· Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning – must be able to provide examples of managing in a change environment and overcoming obstacles

· Significant experience creating a guest or customer environment with specific standards; managing guest satisfaction

· Hospitality industry experience a plus

· Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

· Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate. Proven ability to motivate multiple levels; from Board Member to volunteer

· Ability to interface and engage diverse guest, volunteer and donor groups. Strong public speaking ability necessary

· Exceptional organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

· Unwavering commitment to quality programming; including data-driven program evaluation

· Marketing and public relations experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
