What are the responsibilities and job description for the International Operations Analyst position at DHL eCommerce?

SUMMARY
As part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, the world’s largest logistics company, DHL eCommerce operates an international distribution network to deliver mail and parcels from US merchants to consumers across the globe.  The physical and regulatory profile of each destination country is quite unique, and so too are the distribution chains DHL builds to reach them.  

The International Operations Analyst II supports the International Lane Manager in designing and improving operational work flows, managing internal and external vendors who execute the operation (including airlines, customs brokers and delivery providers), and supporting the rest of the International Business (Sales, Customer Service, Finance, et.c) as an expert on his/her trade-lanes.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run day-to-day operations
  • Ensure a seamless Postal operation by collaborating with our vendors (e.g. Deutsche Post) to resolve network issues
  • Assist DHL terminal staff to timely resolve any issues causing disruptions to production or impacting the customer experience
  • Keep Customer Service and Sales aware of any out-of-specification activity
  • Create Standard Operation Procedures, training material for Customer Service and other documentation

Monitor and report on trade lane performance

  • Collect data from operational systems; compile into a standard reports on service and cost and interpret results, and make recommendations for improvement
  • Provide reports and analysis on trade lane performance to the assigned International Lane Manager and other internal stakeholders (such as Finance, Product Management, Sales)
  • Provide data for cost accruals to Finance each month and audit vendor invoices
  • Interacts on a weekly basis with international vendors (e.g. Deutsche Post) 

Support projects to improve trade lane profitability and quality 

  • Understand how the postal network works and what are the key drivers for cost savings and performance improvement   
  • Analyze routing options for assigned lanes and support the Lane Manager in implementing measures to optimize routing to over 200 countries by balancing cost and service performance on the trade lane
  • Benchmark with other entities (e.g. Deutsche Post) to collect best practices and identify opportunities for improvement and support the Trade Lane Manager in implementing measures to decrease cost and improve transit times and tracking
  • Plan, implement and analyze mystery shopping and test shipment activities 
  • Conduct market research on potential service partners, competitors, market development, and regulatory changes

REQUIREMENTS / SKILLS

  • Excellent analytical and trouble shooting skills
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, with strong emphasis on Excel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational abilities, self-starter with excellent time management and the ability to adapt to rapid changes in the environment 
  • Must be innovative in designing work flow procedures

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 2-4 years working experiencing, preferably in international, cross-functional projects 
  • Experience with Postal network is a plus (e.g. Deutsche Post)
