The Safety Manager, assigned to the DHL Atlanta, Hub develops, manages and administers existing policies and programs to ensure compliance with occupational safety requirements. He/she ensures compliance with existing injury and accident prevention programs, develops cultural change initiatives, programs, monitors compliance, conducts data analysis and recommends preventative actions. The Safety Manager role provides support and guidance to leadership on new initiatives, projects, policy and safety processes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Implements the Safety First Framework at the specific location/area.
- Supports Regional implementation of the Safety First Framework.
- Ensures appropriate and professional provision of Safety support to the Leadership team to ensure safety compliance, incident prevention and safety culture development.
- Ensure full compliance with all the requirements of Safety Regulations as they apply and actively ensures continual improvement using the established systems and processes.
- Tracks and analyses incident trends and communicates target specific recommendations for improved safety performance to Leadership.
- Has oversight of worker's compensation claims profile and provides updates to Leaders. Supports claims reviews.
- Oversees risk assessment process and provides support in developing safe operating procedures.
- Leads serious incident investigations to determine root cause and target procedural, instructional or equipment changes to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure suitable reporting processes are established and maintained in a timely and professional manner.
- Establish and achieve meaningful and effective communications with all relevant parties, both internally and externally.
- Ensure Safety committees are effective.
- Develops and facilitates safety training.
- Promotes DHL safety culture and Leadership Attributes
Skills & Qualifications:
- Must possess leadership qualities. Seasoned professional, self-starting, analytical and energetic.
- Must display a confident demeanor always while always supporting DHL values and 4 Pillars: Motivated People, Great Service Quality, Loyal Customers, and Profitable Network.
- Experience of developing and implementing safety programs.
- Hold or working towards externally accredited safety certificate is desirable (e.g. ASP, CSP or equivalent)
- DHL or other transportation operations experience helpful.
- Adept at Microsoft Office package.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- English
- Must take ownership for all safety related issues and have a “can do” and teamwork style.
- 5 years Safety experience in Operations or safety role
- 1 year leadership experience
