DHL Express currentlyhas an opening for Senior Safety Manager based in the CVG Hub.The Senior Safety Manager designs, leads and manages safety programs to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with safety requirements for the hub facility. They develop and lead the safety management system in line with the Safety First Framework, develop cultural change initiatives, monitor compliance, conduct data analysis and recommend preventative actions.

How will you contribute to the success of DHL?


  • Acts as the subject matter expert on all occupational safety and health related logistics and transportation items, and actively monitors compliance and improvement programs.
  • Design the Safety Plan for the facility
  • Active member of Regional Safety Team and Committee
  • Ensure full compliance with all Safety Regulations as they apply.
  • The program management lead for all Safety related initiatives and enhancements.
  • Manage and develop Safety Team
  • Ensure implementation of the Safety First Framework across the facility
  • Ensure appropriate and professional provision of Safety support to the Leadership team to ensure, incident prevention and safety culture development.
  • Work as the internal Safety Incident Coordinator, ensuring that Emergency response programs are in place
  • Track and analyze incident trends and communicate target specific recommendations for improved safety performance to Leadership.
  • Manage worker's compensation claims profile and provides updates to Leaders.
  • Oversee risk assessment process and provides support in developing safe operating procedures with safer by design principles.
  • Create and lead hazard prevention programs and initiatives
  • Lead serious incident investigations using SIF program principles
  • Ensure suitable reporting processes are established and maintained using effective indicators to promote continuous improvement
  • Establish and achieve meaningful and effective communications with all relevant parties, both internally and externally.
  • Ensure Safety committees are effective
  • Promote the DHL safety culture using safety leadership principles


Key Accountabilities:


  • Monitor, review and interpret existing and proposed changes to occupational H&S regulations, Leadership / Training / Communication / Initiatives.
  • Conducts inspections and assessments to evaluate the business performance in relation to Corporate H&S directives, guidelines and regulatory requirement.
  • Support risk assessment program, provide assistance, training and advice.
  • Manage the EHS/ I-CARE safety management software and ensure incident reporting in accordance to local and DHL guidelines.
  • Report on H&S incidents to SMT and Head of Regional Health & Safety.
  • Lead investigations for H&S incidents and recommend control measures.
  • Design, implement and conduct H&S training and PD sessions on a regular basis.
  • Analyze H&S statistics to determine trends and assist in identifying priorities for action.
  • Ensure timely reporting of monthly/quarterly/annual site reports per local, regional and global DHL requirements.
  • Ensure timely reporting and recording to external regulatory bodies such as OSHA
  • Ensure effective H&S committee and communication systems are implemented.
  • Leads business initiative to achieve external H&S certifications. (e.g., ISO 45001)
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and serve as the emergency coordinator for major events.
  • Develop working relationships and open communication at all levels including external enforcing authorities and emergency services.
  • Working with Engineering, suppliers, local management and staff to perform risk assessments on all proposed and new processes and equipment prior to and post implementation or installation.


Skills and Qualifications:


  • Must possess exceptional leadership qualities. Seasoned professional, self-starting, analytical and energetic.
  • Must display a confident demeanor while always supporting DHL Value and 4 pillars: Motivated People, Great Service Quality, Loyal Customers and Profitable Network.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety programs.
  • Experience of Safety in large or multi facility operation.
  • Hold or be working towards externally accredited safety certification is desirable (e.g., CSP, ASP or equivalent).
  • Logistics and transportation operations experience is helpful.
  • Adept at Microsoft Office and Teams packages.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Must take ownership for all safety related issues and have a “can do” and teamwork style.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or diploma with focus on Occupational Health and Safety or related field, is desirable.
  • At least 5 years in leading a safety management system and experience relevant to the work carried out by a Senior Safety Manager.
  • Strong communication, leadership, training, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in managing compliance issues, regulatory reviews, reporting and record keeping.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with facility and corporate personnel
