Summary:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for business office activities which include collection on self pay accounts and accounts needing patient contact to obtain necessary information to get the account paid.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare reimbursement
  • Medical Terminology
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English required
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of management
  • Prefer hospital experience
  • Some evening or weekend work may be required
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.

  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with other employees, patients and external parties
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required. Must be able to type at least 35 WPM.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in document imaging, filing and daily deposit reconciling.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly and spell correctly.
  • Basic knowledge of internet usage for Third Party Payers.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment, working with frequent interruptions.

Must project a professional image.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Responsible for following up Self Pay accounts assigned on their workstation and/or financial reports, and assures that
    • ATB’s are 100% completed by the end of the week.
  • Assures all functions are completed in a timely and effective manner within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinates the development of an environment that promotes excellence in customer service and satisfaction, while striving for optimal efficiency and productivity of all resources.
  • Interfaces courteously and effectively with all customers to provide assistance, answer questions and facilitate effective operations within the Self Pay areas. Must consistently present a positive departmental and organizational image.
  • Reviews accounts to ensure the appropriate insurance plan is set-up and the correct insurance adjustment was posted.
  • Contacts patients for payment on assigned accounts.
  • Ensure that the account has been appropriately screened with the following information:
    • Patient Address
    • Patient Phone Number
    • Correct Fee Schedule Pricing
    • Receipts Collection Type
  • Reviews the Patient financial screening, completed by outreach clients.
    • Assigned to the Third Party agency for financial assistance if needed.
    • Offered the Prompt Pay settlement balance.
    • Set up for monthly payment.
    • Research for correct address for return mail.
  • Maintains good rapport with the Texas Department of Health Case Worker for account follow up with the accounts pending Medicaid.
  • Contacts patients to ensure all requested information by insurance company is provided. As a last resource, mails letter to patient requesting the information, as per Collection tip sheet.
  • Follow up on faxes or message daily to ensure the fullest collection effort is accomplished, daily.
  • Assists other collectors to collect a difficult account.
  • Read previous notes on the account and documents thoroughly.
  • Turns in promise payments timely.
  • Re-bills accounts for late charge, if necessary.
  • Responds to patient calls within 24 hours and documents activity on the patient account, daily.
  • Enters the proper documentation on the account.

Documents clearly and concisely all information and activity occurring on the patients account daily.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including: Commitment, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.

AGE SPECIFIC :

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
