POSITION SUMMARY:
Successfully motivates, educates, mentors, and leads transplant staff while working in collaboration with the Transplant leadership team at DHR Health: Administrator, Directors, and Managers. Exhibits excellent skills as it relates to leadership, emotional intelligence, communication, business development, transplant, quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI), finance, and people. Has a specialized area of expertise within the field of organ donation and transplantation and strategically leads programmatic activities and day-to-day operations in this domain. Maintains responsibility for the direction, growth, efficiency, and success of clinical, quality, compliance, financial, programmatic, and personnel activities for the kidney transplant program in harmony with the Transplant Administrator including establishing, meeting, and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives in alignment with those of DHR Health. Maintains a matrixed relationship with the Department of Nursing, with the expectation of participation in nursing leadership committees, meetings, and activities.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Texas or Compact state required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Professional certification required. Must maintain BLS or ACLS certification
- CCTC certification preferred
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of four (4) years’ nursing experience required
- Minimum of two (2) years’ transplant experience required
- Knowledge of transplant, leadership, community and regional resources
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with diverse groups and individuals required
- Understanding of the consultative process
- Ability to facilitate quality improvement and standards of care
- Ability to mentor, lead, and develop team members for improved functioning and effectiveness
- Attention to detail and effective communication and documentation with numerous physicians, organ procurement agencies, insurers, regulatory agencies, Operating Room, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Department (ED) staff, the patient and the patients’ family are required.

Articulates to leadership team progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, marketing, and human resources. Creates bi-directional systems that effectively communicate information and data, utilizing multiple methods
- Creates a healthy work environment to promote staff and patient satisfaction, improve retention, deliver high quality clinical outcomes, promote health equity, foster professional growth, and support regulatory compliance through leading quality assurance activities and implementing and educating others about transplant regulatory requirements (i.e. OPTN, CMS, TJC, etc.) and best practices
- Supports Transplant Administrator in programmatic initiatives, direction, and goals. Actively seeks opportunities to improve financial and clinical outcomes, while engaging leadership, staff and physicians in the process; assists in establishing annual financial goals, and actively uses benchmarking to high performing systems in similar area of expertise to set annual targets. Monitors, utilizes, and analyzes financial data for decisions regarding FTE’s, staffing and operational budget
- Engages staff and other stakeholders in continuous improvement of systems, business development, marketing, and processes in tandem with Transplant Administrator, and Transplant Quality and Compliance Manager; develops change strategies for successful implementation, manages resources for staff participation in improvement work activities. Serves as mentor, preceptor, and coach to teach and guide others. Acts as a leader, educator, internal/external liaison and resource to internal and external customers regarding transplant patient care, regulatory requirements related to organ allocation, and transplantation
- Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into Transplant practices and programs. Leads teaching and outreach activities, both internally and externally, for referring physicians, dialysis centers, advanced practice providers, nurses, support staff, allied health professionals, and students in those disciplines. Assumes responsibility for the professional development of self and others. Demonstrates spirit of inquiry and consistently seeks new knowledge through professional organizations, journal articles, and other professional endeavors
- Manages a caseload of patients with end-stage organ disease and/or living donors in various stages of the transplant process (awaiting transplantation, living donor patients, inpatients, and post-transplant) and in varying levels of complexity. Participates in the multidisciplinary patient care team, collaborating with medical physicians, surgeons, advanced practice providers, social workers, pharmacists, financial advisors, nursing personnel and other health disciplines to coordinate the entire transplant process. Ensures that the quality of the nursing care provided demonstrates compassion and a strong awareness of resource optimization and best practices. Provides education to transplant recipients and their families so as to clarify the demands of transplant life including pre-transplant, post-transplant, and living donation. Evaluates the effectiveness of planned strategies in relation to the patient's attainment of expected outcomes. Conducts post-discharge planning and education for patients recently transplanted; provides continuity of care between inpatient admissions and outpatient visits

B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids).
