POSITION SUMMARY:

The Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist (LMRT) is responsible for performing diagnostic radiological bone densitometry procedures in a timely manner. The LMRT performs procedures according to physician's orders. As a member of the team, the LMRT is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care. In addition, the LMRT must be able and willing to help in other areas of the department and is responsible for quality control on the bone density unit.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Current state certification (i.e. Texas Medical Board) required.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required. Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians.
  • Computer knowledge required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two (2) years as a Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist (LMRT) preferred.
  • At least one (1) year experience in bone densitometry preferred.
  • Able to demonstrate high degree of competency and experience with bone densitometry procedures.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, and the ability to closely follow established procedures.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Requires working with frequent interruptions. Must project a professional image.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
  • Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
  • Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Performs and maintains logs on quality control and maintenance on equipment.
  • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
  • Responsible for performing all bone densitometry procedures in a timely manner.
  • Performs all bone densitometry procedures according to training and protocols, including research studies, optimizing imaging examinations to use only the radiation necessary to produce diagnostic-quality images.
  • Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
  • Set up all equipment and supplies for procedures and exams.
  • Provide the safest and best patient care prior to, during, and after procedure.
  • Position patient to obtain the optimal scan, while ensuring maximum radiation protection and following the ALARA principle – as low as reasonably achievable.
  • Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.
  • Ensures all exams are ordered, performed and charged accurately in PACS and RIS systems daily.
  • Maintain dressing and bone densitometry rooms fully stocked with supplies and linen.
  • Responsible for assisting technologists with other duties during downtime (i.e. calling patients back, scanning documents, stocking inventory).
  • Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
  • Complete and update all employment requirements, including employer required continuing education (i.e. HealthStream), Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, and Credentials, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.

B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
