Summary:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Radiology Tech Aide functions under the supervision of a registered technologist. This position will assist the technologist with performing general patient care and other duties that assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual’s degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities. Responsible to work with patients in clinic operations as directed by the tech. Employees hired under this position are required to transition into an available Radiologic Technologist position upon graduation and transitioned as a Rad Tech Intern. Upon obtaining TMB license, employee will be transitioned into full Radiologic Technologist role.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

    • Currently enrolled or graduate of an accredited radiology program.
    • At least one (1) year of clinical experience in Radiologic Technology preferred.
    • Must be ARRT registry eligible and apply for state license upon completion of the radiology program.
    • American Heart Association BLS required.
    • Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
    • Secretarial experience and organizational skills are necessary.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Ability to read, write and speak English required, Spanish preferred.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of staff and physicians.
    • Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet, etc.

    • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

    Responsibilities:

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

    • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
    • Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
    • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures.
    • Performs necessary quality control and maintenance on equipment.
    • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work area.
    • Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
    • Responsible for assisting with procedures in a timely manner.
    • Completes all pre-procedure documentation and lab work necessary for ordered exam.
    • Prepare and position patients for the technologist and/or physician in exam room.
    • Transport patients to and from the imaging room, when needed.
    • Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders and directions.
    • Assumes responsibility for the collection and processing of patient specimens.
    • Completes accurate documentation on patient records according to policy.
    • Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer systems.
    • Insures exams are verified and completed in PACS and RIS systems.
    • Maintain Texas Dept. of Health (TDH), American College of Radiology (ACR), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
    • Complete and update all employment requirements, including employer required continuing education (i.e. HealthStream), Employee Health, and Radiology Competencies, and Credentials, etc.

    Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.

    B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

    C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
