Context/Scope:
Position requires a strong knowledge of plant operations in a variety of subjects, fields and duties including liquid processing, distillation, procurement and project management. Strong leadership and communication skill are critical for this role. The incumbent should be capable of innovative thinking and driven to maintain momentum, while maintaining a healthy industrial climate. The ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects, tasks and organizational needs in an environment that is always dynamic is a critical success factor. The Process engineering manager needs to be diverse enough to understand and track the needs of the business at the most economic cost and highest quality. Ideal candidate must be able to work in a multi-functional role to achieve business objectives with the technical, plant, finance and procurement functions across the US, Canada, and US Virgin Islands.
Purpose of Role:
Responsible for leading the process and process utilities programs for the execution and delivery of projects and strategic programs across the North American Region consisting of the US, Canada and US Virgin Islands. In this role, the Process Engineering Manager will assist with the planning, design, implementation and management of systems; and provide engineering support and project management, technical and engineering support to Manufacturing, Technical Operations, Brand Innovation, Brand Change and Procurement organizations. Additional responsibilities include developing and running data collection systems for continuous feedback to production and distillation as well as assisting with the preparation and execution of capital and expense projects.
Decision Making & Financial Responsibility
Process engineering manager is accountable for evaluating engineering and technical solutions to support the process engineering projects across the North American region. The manager is required to make decisions within the project and negotiate with suppliers or internal customers to help deliver the expectations for the benefit of Diageo, within policies and guidelines, delivering projects on time and within budget
Key Outputs
  • Establish and effectively lead project budgets and objectives. Includes developing, supporting and implementing standardized project management requirements such as change control, training, construction management, scope development and consensus with partners on user requirements, justification, constraints and assumptions. Ability to communicate project status, needs, and critical metrics to wide range of partners across the business.
  • Assist in the design, installation, commissioning and improvements of beverage process and equipment.
  • Supports the Implementation of plant equipment, systems and other fixed assets to achieve a high standard of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Work closely with plants and OEMs to ensure efficient operations and assist in driving process and process utilities projects.
  • Review and audit process flow piping and instrumentation P&IDS
  • Identify and audit existing and new process and process utility equipment.
  • Assist with the process engineering and improvements in ingredients receiving, batching/blending, pasteurization, UHT Processing, ambient/ tunnel pasteurized/aseptic filling, facility/utility equipment, and packaging equipment.
  • Works to identify root cause of manufacturing deviations using structured problem solving and trend data.
  • Applies root cause analysis and corrective process solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensures compliance of process parameters and operational conditions with GMP and ISO regulations
  • Author documents including preventive maintenance plans, standard operating procedures, validation protocols, summary reports, change requests, and other forms.
  • Responsible for maintaining working knowledge of cGMPs and emerging regulatory and compliance concerns related to beverage manufacturing.
  • Provide on-site support during process scale-up, customer launch and full-scale production during regular hours and after hours.
  • Assist with process investigations and product impact assessments for change controls and internal/external investigations.
  • Create equipment/process specifications, and drawings as required and ensure that existing documentation is accurate and appropriate.
  • Develop project justification and engineering proposals for capital submission.
  • Seek areas of opportunity for improvement in line efficiencies, safety, quality, food safety, cost, processes and personnel
  • Provide guidance and support to site engineering regarding design concepts, specifications and requirements to best use equipment and manufacturing process

  • Responsible for understanding the manufacturing processes of the company and identifying areas where the cost/ benefit favors technology and automation.
  • Keeps abreast of best in class practices, and current or emerging manufacturing technologies to determine option and recommend improvements.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in engineering is required. Chemical or Process engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of work experience developing process designs for food and beverage processing facilities; including process flow diagrams and P&IDs. . Distillation or related experience is a plus. Well-rounded engineering and technical expertise is expected.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of work experience sizing and specification of process and process utility equipment
  • Minimum 5- 7 years of work experience developing project scope, budget and process related work schedules
  • Work experience with professional services, process engineering, and food and beverage firms is a plus
  • Interest in food safety and sanitary design principles and a desire learn about various food and beverage industry standards, practices, and regulations
  • Ability to handle multiple work streams while delivering to target dates.
  • On-site construction project coordination and management up to 40% of the time dependent on project maturity/workload
  • Microsoft Office suite literate
  • SAP system knowledge & experience helpful
