POSITION SUMMARY
The Bilingual Patient Representative is responsible for managing front desk operations. This position acts as a Spanish/English translator in a healthcare clinic environment. Fluent bilingual English and Spanish skills are required; as this position is responsible for listening to, understanding, and translating spoken or written statements from one language to another. The Bilingual Patient Representative greets patients, completes registration, reviews patient order and submits paperwork to technical staff for procedure. Other responsibilities include collecting and submitting paperwork as appropriate to business office including insurance information, waivers, accurate demographics, physician information, etc. Consistently works with all staff and radiologists to problem solve issues as necessary. Answers phones and handles calls appropriately. Schedules and reschedules patient appointments as necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and respect for patient’s rights in a Spanish/English speaking environment.
- Shares information and resources appropriately when assisting with Spanish-speaking patients and patient-related correspondence.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and Corporate Compliance.
- Facilitates effective communication (spoken and/or written) by providing Spanish and English language interpretation to patients with limited English proficiency.
- Translates patient materials and corresponding information, and facilitates effective communication for patients with limited English proficiency.
- Communicates with staff, relaying messages or other information relevant to maintaining timely workflow and customer satisfaction.
- Strong computer skills; understanding of RIS system.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret medical terminology effectively from one language to another.
- Understanding of insurance requirements.
- Demonstrates proper phone etiquette.
- Communicates effectively with Spanish and English speaking parties at all times in a professional manner, responding to questions or inquiries with appropriate follow-up and resolution.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects payments by cash, check or credit.
- Reviews orders for accuracy/appropriateness and calls ordering providers’ offices for order revision as needed.
- Answers phones and resolves issues as necessary, or transfers to the appropriate party; speaking Spanish as needed.
- Completes price estimations for the cost of the scheduled exam/procedure and communicates the estimation to the patient; speaking Spanish as needed.
- Calls patients for a variety of reasons, such as confirming or cancelling their appointment, informing them of a collections balance, etc., speaking Spanish and/or English as needed.
- Reconciles the cash drawer and deposit log for the day.
