SCHEDULE

Regular Full-Time Position
Must be available Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, including occasional weekends and after hours.
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.

HIRING RANGE

$20.35 to $25.86 hourly

Actual pay commensurate with experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Implements and supports elements of the organization's safety programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining a safe working environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Listed below are the major duties and responsibilities of this position. Essential job functions are identified with an *.
  • Implements elements of the DLS Safety program and supports departments to manage their Safety programs. (60%)*
  • Updates and maintains Safety Data.
  • Implements DLS Respirator program, such as conducting FIT tests, conducting training for those who are part of the program and supporting the applicable departments to manage compliance of their Respiratory program.
  • Certifies and maintains hoods using American National Standards Institute and National Sanitary Foundation (ANSI/NSF) 49 Standards.
  • Supports department’s ergonomic program by conducting ergonomic evaluations and recommends improvements.
  • Conducts safety audits to identify potential hazards and risks.
  • Participates in inspections by regulatory agencies such as HIOSH, EPA, Fire Department and CDC.
  • Implements DLS Fire Safety Program throughout the company. Conducts and coordinates fire drills at Central Laboratory and partners with fire safety teams at other facilities.
  • Collects and compiles checklist.
  • Trains Fire Wardens on responsibilities
  • Assists in corrective actions of findings during the fire drill.
  • Compiles collects information to complete the annual OSHA Logs and Summaries for all locations. Coordinates with all locations to post as required by law. Completes required Bureau of Labor Statistics report of OSHA injury and illness information for designated DLS locations.
  • Conducts sound level readings and chemical air sampling.
  • Coordinates with departments and vendors for the pick-up and disposal of hazardous waste.

3. Creates and delivers training content across various formats, including live classroom sessions, remote platforms (e.g., Teams, WebEx) and computer- based training. (25%)*

4. Investigates workplace accidents and safety incidents. Recommends corrective actions to prevent future injuries or incidents. (15%)*4.1Hazardous chemical waste disposal

JOB DEMANDS

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Able to sit and use PC for up to four (4) hours continuously.
  • Able to walk, bend, kneel, stand up to two (2) hours intermittently.
  • Able to climb a ladder, use hand tools, use power tools up to two (2) hours intermittently.
  • Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as lab coats, gloves, face shields, respirator and/or eye protection.
  • Able to lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds independently and up to fifty (50) pounds “two-person lift” occasionally
  • Requires air and/or ground travel occasionally.

Typical Working Conditions:

  • Work environment includes conditions common to administrative offices and hospital/laboratory environment, including working directly with bio-hazardous materials and potentially hazardous chemicals. Potential for inadvertent skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other infectious materials.
  • Generally works in an air-conditioned environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required:

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution (High school diploma plus two (2) years healthcare, laboratory or safety experience may substitute for an Associate degree).

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in science or safety.

Experience:

Required:

  • One (1) year customer service, healthcare, laboratory or safety experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience in healthcare or a laboratory environment.
  • Safety experience.

Certification:

Preferred:

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar application.
  • Ability to calculate algebra and geometry formulas.

Other Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid driver’s license and able to travel between business locations.
