What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biomedical Technician position at Dialysis Center of Lincoln NE?
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Biomedical Technician is responsible for the overall repair and maintenance of the dialysis related
equipment, physical environment upkeep and repairs and spare parts purchasing. Other duties may be
assigned. Adherence to all of the Dialysis Center of Lincoln Inc. policies and procedures is mandatory.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Valid driver’s license in the state of Nebraska. Driving record must meet insurance liability
requirements.
3. 2 years previous experience as a dialysis biomed or similar experience in a hospital setting or
medical environment preferred.
4. Demonstrated ability to effectively repair and maintain dialysis equipment and water systems
preferred.
5. Confirmation of ability to distinguish the difference between all primary colors.
6. Working knowledge of the English language and ability to communicate verbally and writing.
7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to work as part of a team
9. Ability to manage multiple projects in multiple locations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (in accordance with organizational policy and procedures, additional duties
may be assigned)
1. Responsible for overseeing overall technical operations of assigned clinics from a fiscal, technical
and regulatory perspective.
2. Manage labor hours to maximize the effectiveness and support.
3. Repair and maintain equipment to minimize downtime and increase usable life of equipment.
4. Ensure purchasing protocols are followed and that par levels of parts are adequate.
5. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment in accordance to company policy, manufacturer’s
specifications, AAMI standards, and federal and state regulations.
6. Repair, calibrate, test, clean and disinfect dialysis machines, distribution loops and RO systems
in accordance to company policy, manufactures specifications, and federal requirements
7. Perform water quality checks to include but not limited to: Total chlorine, water and hardness
testing
8. Perform safety checks and tests on all pretreatment water equipment including but not limited
to carbon tanks, media filters, water softeners, RO units, UV lights and ultra-filters
9. Collect water samples for AAMI analysis testing according to protocol.
10. Collect samples of RO water and dialysate for microbiology testing according to protocol.
11. Work with staff to maintain chronological, thorough and appropriate documentation in relation
to equipment and water system maintenance.
12. Obtain knowledge and remain current with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
13. Perform electrical safety testing on dialysis machines and related equipment.
14. Perform all duties within limitations established by and in accordance with company policy and
applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
15. Know and understand the function and safe operation of water treatment equipment and
related mechanical and electrical systems.
16. Be well versed with the manufacture’s instruction manuals and the operation of such
equipment. Be capable starting up and shutting down all facility equipment.
17. Continually monitor the physical environment to ensure a safe and sanitary facility, and that all
equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
18. Address all physical equipment issues which could impact patient or staff safety.
19. Maintain preventative maintenances programs and supporting documentation.
20. Ensure documentation is maintained for devices being serviced.
21. Develop Corrective Action Plans and assist in implementation as required by external surveys.
22. Be familiar with all emergency equipment and emergency operational procedures
23. Use appropriate safety measures including personal protective equipment as necessary.
24. Stay current with OSHA regulations.
25. Understands and promotes the company mission and philosophy relating to ethics, integrity,
safety, corporate responsibility and objectives.
26. Communicates with Lead Biomedical Technician on a consistent basis regarding the status of
each clinic they are responsible for.
27. Be aware of all contracts and associated contacts for the emergency repair of any clinic
equipment.
28. Coordinate major repairs and renovations with outside vendors as needed, obtain quotes from
reputable and approved contractors to address physical environment issues.
29. Attend and present technical summaries at the monthly QAPI meetings.
30. Maintain collaborative working relationships with administration to ensure clinic and patient
needs are met.
31. Respond effectively and professionally to inquiries and concerns.
32. Provide instruction to staff on the proper operation and utilization of dialysis equipment and
systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to Push and Pull heavy medical equipment weighing up to 200 pounds daily.
2. Capable of verifying visual and audio alarms.
3. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
4. Possess full range of body motion and flexibility.
