About the Birmingham Barons:
The Birmingham Barons, Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, bring rich baseball history to Regions Field. Known for developing stars and a dynamic game-day atmosphere, the Barons are a cornerstone of the Birmingham sports community. The Birmingham Barons are a proud member club of Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH). DBH was formed in 2021 to support, promote, and enhance Minor League Baseball through best practices, professional management, innovation, and investment.
Position Overview:
The Marketing & Promotions Coordinator will support the Birmingham Barons’ marketing efforts through email campaigns, promotions, social media, and game-day entertainment. This role manages email marketing to drive ticket sales and sponsorships, assists with theme nights and promotional activities, and helps oversee game-day staff. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the team website, supporting PR efforts, and executing live event coverage. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, creative, and able to enhance fan engagement across multiple platforms.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Email Marketing:
- Execute the Birmingham Barons email marketing strategy, including independently creating and delivering customized email campaigns to support ticket sales and sponsorship goals.
- Promotions:
- Assist with all team promotions and theme night execution.
- Source and manage local acts and vendors for theme nights while adhering to budget constraints.
- Assist in managing and scheduling game day staff such as promotional team, mascot, emcee, etc.
- Website Management:
- Assist with the management of the Birmingham Barons website to ensure accuracy and currency, especially related to ticketing, sponsorship fulfillment, and promotional elements.
- Public Relations and Media:
- Assist with offseason PR efforts, including press releases and community involvement initiatives.
- Provide support during the season for ongoing PR activities.
- Game Day Responsibilities:
- Focus on live event coverage, including capturing and publishing live content on social media.
- Execute email campaigns and other strategic initiatives to promote future games.
- Support on-field promotions and all aspects of game-day entertainment.
- Assist with scheduling and managing production staff such as video production, music operators, game presentation, and other press box staff. (Not particular on the wording here, just want to add in potential production assistance into the game day responsibilities that would be great)
- Social Media Strategy:
- Collaborate on the creation and execution of a comprehensive social media strategy.
- Maintain the social media calendar as part of the rolling marketing calendar.
- Create quick-turn content for major events and provide live event coverage.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-2 years of experience in marketing, promotions, email marketing, social media, or related fields, preferably in sports or entertainment.
- Proficiency in email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) and basic knowledge of CRM systems.
- Strong content creation skills, including social media management, live event coverage, and digital marketing strategies.
- Experience with website management (e.g., WordPress, MLB Ballpark app) and a basic understanding of HTML/CSS is a plus.
- Ability to coordinate promotions and theme nights, including booking entertainment acts, managing budgets, and organizing event logistics.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by the baseball season.
