What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Equine Farm Hand - Day Shift position at Diamond Creek Farm?
Job Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking farm hand to join our team for the 2025 breeding season. Our farm foals approximately 50 mares between January and July. This is an excellent opportunity to work hands-on with mares and foals.
Hours: Day Shift 7am - 4pm, 6 days a week
Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:
- Conducting checks on pregnant mares every 15-20 minutes, monitoring for signs of labor.
- Assisting with foaling, identifying issues, and notifying the farm manager as needed.
- Providing postpartum care for mares and foals.
- Bringing in mares and foals and turning them out.
- Cleaning stalls and restocking foaling supplies.
- Providing water and hay to horses throughout the day as needed.
- Administering medications as directed by the veterinarian or farm manager.
- Assisting with new mare and foal exams when necessary.
Requirements:
- Experience working with mares and foals.
- Familiarity with dystocia (preferred).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., water buckets, straw, and hay bales).
- Ability to safely restrain foals and manage mares.
