Shop Mechanic

With over 35 years in the heavy highway construction business, focusing on concrete grinding, repair, and sealing, we are a rapidly growing, team-oriented company looking to add a shop mechanic to our shop in Huxley, IA.  Our shop includes drive through bays to accommodate any truck/trailer combo and a full 7.5 ton bridge crane covering all bays.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, diagnose and make repairs on semi tractors, trailers, and various other construction equipment
• Diesel and gas engine diagnostics and repairs with computer diagnostics if needed
• Documentation of all repairs and maintenance
• Ordering of parts as needed

QUALIFICATIONS/JOB SKILLS:

• Read schematics of electrical and hydraulics.
• Knowledge of diesel emissions systems
• Class A driver’s license with tanker endorsement, good driving record, complete inspections, logs, and fuel reports. This is preferred; however, we do offer an in house training program to obtain this.
• Make practical decisions on whether to repair or replace components based on safety, timelines, and cost.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations.
• 1- 3 years’ experience or extensive mechanical ability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• You will be frequently asked to stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, tools or controls and reach with hands/arms.
• Ability to life 50lbs or more as needed.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to climb or crawl on equipment occasionally and on the ground to work on equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work at the shop year round
• Site specific exposure to various materials requiring proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Noise levels are site specific and may be subject to PPE.
• Possible travel in the summer months.
