Job Summary:

The Electrical technician is responsible for safely and accurately following instructions and blue prints in order to lay out, assemble wiring harnesses and control panels, install, and maintain low voltage electrical equipment. The Electrical Technician will also handle materials, count parts, and ensure safe and efficient operation of the work area.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Visually inspects tools and equipment for safety and proper operation at the beginning of each shift. Notifies supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs or replacements
  • Lay out and build wiring harnesses
  • Crimp, solder, and heat shrink wiring connections
  • Install wiring harnesses, mounting brackets, control enclosures, buttons, switches and lights per print specifications
  • Safely operates equipment to produce parts for the production process
  • Inspects finished parts for quality and accuracy and informs supervisor of any non-conformities
  • Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
  • Understands and follows all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other tasks as assigned or needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste
  • Cleans and organizes work area.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
  • Marks specific parts for identification

Qualification requirements

  • Ability to accurately read and understand written instructions or plans
  • Ability to accurately understand verbal instructions or plans
  • Ability to measure, hold, and position materials
  • Ability to read and understand parts lists to form correct number of parts to the required specification
  • Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials in designated locations
  • Ability to accurately use a tape measure, operate computer software, and read blue prints
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to move under, over, and through some tight spaces
  • Ability to safely work on raised platforms, climb stairs or ladders, and climb off equipment or ladders
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach both above and below shoulder height
  • Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills
  • Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner
  • Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands as needed
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen

Working Conditions

  • Temperature and humidity variances consistent with normal outdoor ranges. Climate control in the facilities is limited. May occasionally require working outdoors
  • Air contaminates such as smoke and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV
  • The presence of electrical and compressed air sources
  • The presence of bottled gas and oxygen
  • The presence of chemicals
  • The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks, or other vehicles
  • Exposure to flying particles, hot or molten metal
  • Exposure to light radiation from welding or plasma cutting
  • Exposure to sharp edges and points on steel and abrasive tools
  • Exposure to falling or rolling steel
