We are searching for an attentive, experienced kennel assistant to oversee the well-being of the animals. The kennel assistants responsibilities include cleaning cages, administering medication, and providing animals with food and water. To ensure success as a kennel assistant , you should be able to anticipate and tend to the needs of animals. Ultimately, a top-notch kennel assistant will be able to tailor their care according to animals' physical, emotional, and behavioral difficulties.
Kennel Assistant:
- Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint. Properly handle animals as required to restrain animals as directed to assist with the administration of medications, vaccines, lab work, microchipping etc.
- Under the direction of Kennel Managers, administer medications, vaccines, post-operative care.
- Make animal cage cards and charts with information such as feeding, medication and exercise schedules.
- Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent. Utilize sound judgement when identifying and record and report any signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity directly to Kennel Managers. Record appearance, behavior of animals daily into kennel log book.*

- Knowledgeable in; dog behavior and be able to handle stressed and possibly aggressive dogs.
- Provide exercise, training and proper socializing to help facilitate pet adoptions.
- Must love pets and have strong interpersonal skills for staff, volunteers and the public.
- Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, runs and litter boxes as often as is necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general and deep cleaning in other areas of the store to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls. Launder & dry towels and blankets. Patrol the grounds daily picking up trash and stool and disposing of it in the proper manner.
- Keep kennels and enclosures in good repair by reporting issues to Kennel Managers.
- Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor.
- Regular attendance and timeliness are an essential function in order to fulfill the requirements of this position.
