Job Scope

The Leave of Absence & Workers’ Compensation Specialist plays a key role in administering and overseeing all aspects of employee leave programs and Workers’ Compensation cases across the U.S. This includes handling FMLA, ADA, state-specific leaves, short-term and long-term disability, personal leaves, and Workers’ Compensation claims, while serving as a key liaison between employees, managers, third-party administrators, and internal stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Administer and coordinate all employee leaves of absence including FMLA, ADA, STD/LTD, parental leave, military leave, and state-mandated programs.
Manage the end-to-end Workers’ Compensation process, including claim reporting, coordination with third-party administrators, tracking case status, and facilitating return-to-work accommodations.
Ensure accurate data entry and tracking in HRIS and vendor systems; maintain confidentiality and compliance of sensitive medical and personal information.
Act as the primary point of contact for employees, leaders, and HR partners regarding leave and Workers’ Compensation processes, ensuring a consistent and supportive experience.
Partner closely with EHS, Legal, Payroll, and Benefits to ensure alignment and regulatory compliance across programs.
Conduct periodic audits of leave and WC programs to ensure accurate reporting, process integrity, and adherence to timelines and applicable laws.
Collaborate with HR leadership to identify trends and recommend process improvements and policy updates.
Educate employees and managers on leave policies and processes, including return-to-work procedures, restrictions, and accommodation discussions under the ADA.
Generate leave and Workers’ Compensation reporting metrics and analytics for internal leadership and external regulatory purposes.

Education, Experience and Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
3–5 years of experience managing leave of absence programs, including FMLA, ADA, and short/long-term disability.
2 years of experience with Workers’ Compensation case management and compliance.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state leave laws, ADAAA, HIPAA, OSHA, and Workers' Compensation regulations.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex processes to employees with clarity and empathy.
Strong organization, documentation, and time-management skills.
Ability to manage highly confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Proficiency with HRIS systems (Workday preferred), case management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:
Experience in the healthcare, diagnostics, or medical device industry.
Certification in Leave Management (e.g., CLMS) or Workers’ Compensation (e.g., CWCP).
Prior experience working with third-party administrators such as Unum, Sedgwick, or equivalent.
