Melt Engineer
Job Description
Location: Greenville, MI Department: Melt/ Engineering
Reports to: Plant 2 Manager Date: February 2025
Summary:
Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. Improves overall manufacturing processes through analysis and strategic planning. Will identify inefficient manufacturing processes and work to eliminate them to increase output and decrease costs. This is a skilled position that requires previous experience and in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing process. Melt process engineers must have ability and desire to work on the floor of the plant to identify problems with the overall melting process. Responsible for process development, monitoring process setpoints and adjusting if necessary. This position also leads capital equipment procurement and installation projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting studies & trials; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
2. Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
3. Improves melting efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
4. Assures product and process quality by adhering to chemistry specifications and ensuring that production teams are following.
5. Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
6. Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Contributes to cost savings efforts by identifying opportunities and implementing improvement projects.
7. Leads continuous improvement activities in assigned processes to achieve KPI’s for output and yield.
8. Project management for new equipment procurement and installation.
9. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
10. Assists maintenance department with keeping equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service, identifying spare parts.
11. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
12. Contributes to team effort by coordinating and leading cross-functional teams and communicating actions plans.
Skills and Experience:
• B.S. degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or extensive manufacturing experience in a technical position.
• 3-5 years of experience in Manufacturing, Process, or Industrial Engineering position
• Knowledge and experience with AutoCad
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
• Experience writing procedures and work instructions
• Familiar with Quality Management Systems Standards such as IATF 16949
• Computer Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Minitab, Visio, Project).
• Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software in use.
• Experience with industrial equipment
• Strong written and oral communication skills with all levels of the company
• Ability to understand and carry out complicated oral or written instructions
• Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt desired

Physical Work Conditions
• Must be able to work in a hot environment
• Must be able to lift and move aluminum wheels of varying weight
