What are the responsibilities and job description for the Agronomist / Food Safety position at Dickey Farms?
Dickey Farms is a fifth-generation family business focused on growing the highest quality Georgia peaches. Based in Musella, GA, we are also home to Georgia’s oldest continuously operating peach packinghouse. We grow many varieties of peaches throughout the middle Georgia area, and pack all produce in our peach packinghouse. Additionally, we grow a variety of crops including pecans, strawberries and vegetables.
Dickey Farms is seeking a motivated, hardworking individual
- Monitoring tree health and disease
- Obtain and evaluate soil samples
- Monitor insect and disease pests
- Calculate insecticide, fungicide, and herbicide rates and monitor application
- Maintain recordkeeping for on farm food safety activities
- Monitor and maintain irrigation system and scheduling
- Play an integral role in all aspects of the production cycle
- Maintain our food safety program
Basic Qualifications
- Associate, Bachelors, or advanced degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Irrigation, Soil Science, or related area
- One year of previous experience in farm management, agronomy, food safety, soil science, irrigation or other related agriculture field
- Basic knowledge of soils and crops
- The ability to solve problems and make decisions effectively
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as required
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to work outside in hot/cold conditions
- A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
- Must Possess valid U.S. Driver’s License and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluent in Spanish
- Excellent communication skills
- Background and experience with tree crops
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $36,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
