Job Summary / Basic Function The Dialogist in Residence (DIR) works to expand the practice of dialogue across difference throughout the Dickinson campus and the Carlisle community. Central to this work, the DIR will recruit, train, support, and evaluate a cohort of 2-5 paid student employees who facilitate dialogues working with faculty and student groups. These students will interface with student and community organizations, along with the broader campus, to increase opportunities for civic skills development, community engagement, and civic identity formation. The DIR will support faculty and staff involved in the Dialogues Across Differences project and its efforts to integrate civic dialogue practices across the curriculum and co-curriculum. This is a one-year appointment.
Essential Functions :
- Coordinate recruitment, selection, on-boarding, and training of a cohort of paid students serving as dialogue assistants. Mentor, supervise, train, and evaluate assistants, serving as the primary coordinator for Dialogue Assistant Program. Work with faculty to identify relevant courses and support integration of dialogue, including support for dialogue curriculum design and assessment.
- Prepare curriculum and supporting materials under the guidance of faculty and staff, coordinate logistics, and co-facilitate an annual civic dialogue immersive training program as well as additional student leadership programs within the Center for Civic Learning & Action (CCLA).
- Compile training and facilitation resources and stay abreast of new scholarship in support of the Dialogues Across Differences program. Assist the Dialogues Across Differences team with faculty development and data collection initiatives.
- Serve as a primary contact for campus and community partners for the Dialogues Across Differences Program, building trust and proactively maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders.
- Work with faculty and staff of the Center for Civic Learning & Action (CCLA) to connect existing and new programs to the Dialogues Across Difference program. Serves as a member of the CCLA staff leadership team to further our mission to develop ethical civic leaders who collaborate in the pursuit of just and resilient communities.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree – Any liberal arts and sciences discipline
Valid Driver’s License A valid Driver's Licence is required. Employees (operators) must have been in possession of a valid operator’s license for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period. No Successful candidate will also be required to complete ACT 153 Clearance No This position is considered "Emergency Staff." As such they may be required to report to work even when the college is closed or is operating under a delayed start.
