Job Summary / Basic Function The person in this role is responsible for coordinating and providing robust programming to facilitate success across the professional life span faculty, including supporting pedagogical development and innovation, scholarly and creative work, and leadership development. The Director of Dickinson’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship reports to the Provost and Dean of the College, and collaborates with faculty, students, and academic affairs staff as well as staff in instructional technology, accessibility and disability services, and equity and inclusion (among others and as needed) to build a strategic vision and approach for developing teaching effectiveness. Working closely with the Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Faculty this person will support our work to recruit and retain an excellent faculty, serving a diverse set of students, across a range of liberal arts disciplines.
Essential Functions :
- Develop and implement a comprehensive approach to supporting pedagogical excellence at Dickinson College. Using data collected through routine comprehensive needs assessment, develop a plan for innovative and inclusive faculty and staff pedagogical development including – but not limited to – learning communities, summer study groups, book groups, workshops, and pedagogical consultations; coordinate and amplify the development opportunities offered by the Senior Associate Provosts, as well as leaders of academic centers, the Trout Gallery, Waidner-Spahr Library, Academic Technology, Access and Disability Services, SOAR, Student Success, and Advising.
- Develop, plan, lead, coordinate, and assess a comprehensive and innovative program of faculty development in the areas of grants-getting, scholarly and creative work, and professional development (including collaborating on training department chairs). Work with the Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs to collaborate on broader faculty development initiatives, including new faculty orientation and mentoring, and supporting faculty throughout their professional life-span.
- Develop and Sustain Dickinson’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship. Seek foundation and philanthropic support the work of the Center; manage any existing grants and funds, including providing leadership for existing and new programmatic delivery related to those funds, assessing success, and determining plans for programmatic sustainability.
- Teaches, as part of contract, up to one class per year, in service of curricular needs (for instance, First Year Seminar). Teaching activities include preparing course outlines and syllabi, engagement in curricular development, selection of textbooks, classroom and / or lab instruction, creating a learning environment that encourages involvement, directing projects, advising / mentoring students on course content, and documenting student progress through relevant assignments / exams.
Preferred Qualifications Doctoral Degree
Terminal degrees (MFA, MSW) other than PhD or EdD considered. A valid Driver's Licence is required. Employees (operators) must have been in possession of a valid operator’s license for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period. No Successful candidate will also be required to complete ACT 153 Clearance No This position is considered "Emergency Staff." As such they may be required to report to work even when the college is closed or is operating under a delayed start.
