Position: Craft Apprentice (Electrical)
Department: Operations and Facilities
Wage/Hour Status: nonexempt
Immediate Supervisor(s): Director of Maintenance
Pay Grade: Per Compensation Manual
Days Employed: Per Compensation Manual
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Maintain schools in a condition of operating excellence so full educational use may occur at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. desired
- Clear and Valid Texas Driver’s License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Have a good driving record
- Be willing to attend classes and workshops
- Ability to assist Electricians in the transformation of plans into a completed product
- Basic knowledge of electrical & lighting systems
Experience:
- No experience necessary
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines
- May be required to be on 24-hour call-out
- Be able to work with designated crafts in the work assigned
- Assist Electricians in performing regular preventive maintenance on equipment
- Perform all other duties assigned

- Tools/Equipment Used: Light truck or van, various tools such as; hand and power tools, and other tools as needed on work assignments. Specialty tools related to specific craft assignments.
- Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
- Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis
- Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
- Professional Dress: Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.
