Position: General Craft Maintenance Apprentice
Department: Operations and Facilities
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Maintenance
Wage/Hour Status: Not Exempt
Pay Grade: Per Compensation Manual
Days Employed: Per Compensation Manual
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Maintain DISD structures in excellent condition to ensure the safety of students, staff and community members while maximizing learning opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Have a good driving record
- Be willing to attend classes and workshops
- Ability to assist Technicians in the transformation of plans into a completed product
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance work performed in school facilities
Experience:
- No experience necessary
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties:
- Maintain all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines
- May be required to be on 24-hour call-out
- Be able to work with designated crafts in work that they are assigned to do
- Assist Technicians by performing regular preventive maintenance on equipment
- Perform all other duties as assigned

- Tools/Equipment Used: Light truck or van, various tools such as; hand and power tools, and other tools as needed on work assignments. Specialty tools related to specific craft assignment
- Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
- Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis
- Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids, bacteria, communicable diseases)
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
- Professional Dress: Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.
