What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Receptionist (Float) position at Dickson Medical Associates?
Under the direction of the Patient Services Supervisor, the receptionist is responsible for incoming telephone calls in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner and greeting/assisting visitors in the same manner, entering & updating patient demographics, verifying insurance information, registering patients, scheduling appointments, front end cash collections consisting of co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, payment on accounts and self pay, daily deposits, balancing paperwork at end of day, and other duties as assigned; Participates in a team environment to include open communication, trust, accountability and mutual respect.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements include: High school diploma or GED, medical office experience needed, excellent telephone etiquette, strong customer service skills, computer skills, copier, adding machine, fax machine & general office duties equivalent. Must be proficient in computer related skills, MS Office preferably in Excel and Word; ability to work with limited supervision; possess strong verbal communication skills, good organization skills and attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties include the following, but are not limited to:
Schedules appointments for patients either by phone when they call in or in person after an office visit
- Uses computerized system to match physician/clinician availability with patient’s preferences in terms of date and time.
- Maintains scheduling system so records are accurate and complete and can be used to analyze patient/staffing patterns. Provides daily schedules to physicians/clinicians or medical assistants prior to each day’s visits.
- Ensures that updates (e.g., cancellations or additions) are input daily.
- Communicates as needed with physicians/clinicians and other staff about any patient concerns/issues related to scheduling.
- Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
- Ability to multitask effectively, dealing with phone calls, in-office patients, staff, and others pleasantly.
- Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients about appointments in all circumstances including when they are ill or have an emergency.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians and other clinical staff, and the public.
- Explains financial requirements to the patients or responsible parties and collects copays as required
- Other duties as assigned.
