What You’ll Do
- Oversee all aspects of the billing department - medical coding, charge entry, claims submission, payment posting, accounts receivable follow-up, and reimbursement.
- Develop and direct processes for patient insurance documentation, coding, billing, collections, and data processing to maintain accuracy and streamline account management.
- Analyze billing and claims for accuracy, address discrepancies, and collaborate with other departments and entities to obtain and process necessary information. Proactively resolve conflicts in policy language and refine workflows to overcome process challenges.
- Prepare and review AR, financial reports, and insurance contracts. Identify trends affecting revenue and implement improvements to coding, collections, and account management.
- Conduct regular audits to identify errors in billing and coding, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations, including HIPAA.
- Partner with management to design and implement policies that enhance operational efficiency and align with organizational goals.
- Monitor changes in carrier rules and coding guidelines, and ensure updates are effectively communicated and applied within the practice.
- Lead billing staff by providing training, resolving issues, and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability. Offer ongoing coaching, encourage professional growth, and ensure team member performance.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify areas for improvement, streamline processes, and implement solutions.
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of experience in medical billing, with 3 years leading a medical billing or revenue cycle team.
- Proficiency with billing software and MS Office (experience with myEvolv is a bonus).
- Medical billing and coding certification preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of healthcare revenue cycle operations, including CPT/ICD9/ICD10 coding, payer requirements (Medicare, Medicaid, Tribal, private payers, and Washington State MCOs), and related reporting.
- Hands-on experience with provider credentialing and enrolling providers/entities with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to make sound, independent decisions regarding accounts receivable and billing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify and address operational challenges.
- Must be able to work onsite (this is not a remote position).
- Understanding and the ability to adhere to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2).
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting with an understanding of the role of trauma and historical experiences in wellness and recovery.
- Tribal affiliation is a plus!
