What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool and Die Maker position at Die Concepts Inc.?
The Applicant is responsible for independently performing all tool room work, with responsibility for accuracy, quality of work, and adherence to established project costs. Work involves layout, planning and performing all bench and machine operations to construct, alter or repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges used in metal stamping, punch press and assembly operations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all duties are performed safely with knowledge of safety policies. Recommends opportunities to improve safety and educates others.
- Conceptualizes, designs and builds tools, fixtures, gauges, and special processing equipment. Work from drawings, specifications, sketches, samples or instructions.
- Exercise independence with direct responsibility for quality, accuracy, and project costs, including die building, alteration, repair and maintenance.
- Select materials required and plan and layout machining and forming procedures. Use precision measuring instruments for exacting dimensional requirements.
- Analyze and perform any maintenance task of dies including modifications to improve function, as well as engineering die changes. Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on all dies.
- Perform all tool room operations with all equipment to exacting dimensional requirements and accepted practices. Perform close and exacting bench and assembly operations to fit, align, adjust, assemble and finish work. Assist with die tryouts on new or modified work. May machine replacement parts for equipment.
- Troubleshoot any dies, fixtures, processes, or machinery as requested. Instruct and assist other team members. May complete trial run to ensure proper operation of equipment.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (completed).
- Advanced Journeyman Tool & Die Maker or equivalent work experience. Requires technical knowledge as is normally acquired in accredited apprenticeship program.
- experience in fine blanking tooling, and operating various machines including grinders, milling machines, and lathes.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to interact professionally with other functions within the organization and external vendors.
- Strong skills in reading blueprints and mathematics.
- Able or willing to learn to transfer CAD geometry from solid models and create machine tool cutter paths.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry materials and parts that weigh up to 50 pounds (with assistance).
