Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to join our team at Digital Systems Engineering. This key leadership role requires an individual with a deep understanding electrical systems design, manufacturing processes, and quality management systems. The Engineering Manager will oversee a team of engineers, driving development of PCBAs, embedded software, and mechanical designs to meet customer and internal specifications. The designs will enhance manufacturing operations while ensuring compliance, reliability, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a solid background in both engineering management and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers in the design and sustainment of rugged electronic product lines.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering environment, ensuring team members are well-supported and motivated.
- Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Sales) to align engineering goals with corporate objectives.
Systems Design:
- Oversee the design, integration, and troubleshooting of the following subassemblies:
- Mechanical enclosures
- User interfaces – Bezel keys, human factors, touch screens
- Circuit boards - video processing, power management and distribution, protocol conversions
- Software – Video translation, embedded firmware, and on-screen menus
- Ensure top-level product meets MIL-STDs and the design process is compliant with an AS9100 QMS.
- Collaborate with an SMT production team for consistent manufacturing output.
- Identify opportunities in design and production to improve efficiencies across multiple product lines.
Project Management:
- Manage engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
- Act as a technical liaison to customer’s engineering teams.
- Evaluate project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
Quality & Compliance:
- Perform system analysis, inspection, and testing, to assure compliance with product specifications, statement of work, and acceptance test procedures.
- Further develop strong documentation processes such as FAIs, ECOs, and design reviews in accordance with AS9100 QMS.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in electrical systems design including video processing, power distribution, control systems, and/or industrial automation.
- At least 3 years of experience in a management or leadership role overseeing engineering teams.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, including circuit design.
- Proficient with engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Altium, etc.).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as assembly instructions, SMT assembly, robotics, and traceability databases.
Leadership & Communication:
- Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration with production, quality, and maintenance teams.
Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of resolving engineering challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of industry-specific standards (e.g., MIL-STDs, UL, IEC).
- Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing software.
