Responsibilities
Position Overview:
This position primarily focuses on inpatient oncology and hematology care, with potential opportunities for rotating between inpatient and outpatient settings for candidates with relevant certifications (Family Nurse Practitioner and/or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner). The NP will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of cancer care, including patient assessment, treatment planning, and care coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Provide comprehensive assessments for adult inpatient oncology and hematology patients, including history and physical exams, diagnostic study orders and interpretation, and formulation of treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians.
- Treatment Management: Prescribe appropriate treatments, medications, and therapies in accordance with established protocols and in collaboration with the attending oncologist.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, specialists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare team members to ensure seamless, holistic care for patients.
- Acute Medical Management: Manage complications and acute medical issues related to cancer treatment, including toxicities, infections, and palliative care needs.
- Palliative and End-of-Life Care: Provide compassionate palliative care, including symptom management and end-of-life care coordination, as appropriate.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about cancer treatments, side effects, self-management strategies, and advance care planning.
- Consultation and Communication: Consult with specialty physicians regarding changes in patient condition, diagnostic results, and treatment recommendations.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring comprehensive documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing, with a certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner).
- Licensure: Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Arizona.
- Hematology/oncology experience required either as a NP or as a nurse.
- OCN or AOCNP preferred, but not required
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong clinical knowledge in the management of hematologic and oncologic conditions, both malignant and benign.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and formulate individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending oncologists and specialists.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Proficiency in the interpretation of diagnostic studies (labs, imaging) and the management of complex medical conditions.
- Compassionate approach to palliative and end-of-life care.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Pay Range
$51.66 - $86.79 /hour
Salary : $52 - $87
