SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for utilizing oral and written bilingual skills to assist in communicating with students and parents and vice versa; for promoting our District commitment to building and maintaining a safe, fair and respectful work/learning environment that honors the cultural diversity of students, staff, families and our community.

- Utilize bilingual language skills to assist instructional personnel in communicating with students and parents, both orally and in writing.
- Communicate regarding ongoing activities to provide information and support to build on family strengths, such as workshops responding to parents’ requests regarding school-related home learning activities, appropriate homework assistance, school clinic regulations and testing.
- Facilitate support groups and set-up workshops for parents as needed.
- Interpret and translate for Spanish-speaking families as well as other translator needs in the district.
- Discuss with parents home learning activities suggested by schools.
- Assist in the establishment and maintenance of communication between district programs and the community.
- Make referrals to appropriate social service agencies.
- Schedule home visits requested by school personnel and participate as necessary.
- Coordinate and implement outreach to traditionally non-participating families.
- Meet with the Language Development and Equity Coordinator Program Specialist to develop and implement a yearly plan for outreach activities to increase family and community partnership with the school.
- Demonstrates the commitment to build and maintain a safe, fair and respectful working and learning environment that honors the cultural diversity of students and staff.
- Provide input to the Equity Advisory team on implementing the district strategic plan by improving the cultural proficiency of district policies/procedures, operational, classroom and building environments and operational systems.
- Participate in district and school cultural proficiency activities and events designed at creating more inclusive school climates.
- Support on-site translator and interpreter for emergency events/activities.
- Assist the Emergency Response Committee in translating and dispersing emergency response procedures; parent and student response training activities; and other Emergency Response Committee needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in oral and written Spanish and English
- Associate’s Degree in Pertinent Area preferred
- Computer skills: word processing and test administration software.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience Working with Diverse Families preferred
- 2 years previous successful experience with children, Clerical skills appropriate to duties of position.
