Job Summary
The laser machine operator safely performs laser cutting for a variety of organizational manufacturing needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Performs typical laser cutting of sheet metal through automated CO2 laser and Fiber Laser machine.
· Receive work orders and jobs to process from supervisor.
· Review required raw materials (sheet stock) needed and work with material handler to retrieve material for placement into laser shelving system.
· Load proper programs into machine controller.
· Designate completed work to specific offload worktables and place matching work folders with correct tables to be processed in the shake out area.
· Operate a forklift to replenish laser materials and transport finished tables and products efficiently and safely.
· Perform preventative maintenance specific to laser function.
· Adjust focal beam.
Requirements
Non-Essential Duties
· Maintain and organize fixtures required/related to laser processing.
· Maintain and organize consumables (nozzles, lenses, slats, etc.).
· Maintain, organize, and label sheet metal “drop rack” for later use.
· Operate overhead crane for full sheet material loading.
· Load drop sheets onto cutting table.
· Detect and report defective materials to the production supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of fabricated sheet metal manufacturing.
· Knowledge of different types of metals (Aluminum, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, etc.).
· Expert ability to read engineering blueprints.
· Knowledge of assist gases used in laser processing (oxygen, N2, etc.).
· Excellent organizational skills.
Experience and Education:
· Previous Planning/ Scheduling experience.
· 3 - 5 years previous Supervisory/ Cell leadership experience in a “Job Shop”.
· 3 - 5 years’ experience in CNC Programming, Machine operation, or laser operation.
· 1 - 2 years’ working knowledge of CAD Programs.
· 2- or 4-year degree or technical schooling in manufacturing fields or 5-10 years of proven increased responsibility in the area of CNC programming/ manufacturing.
Special Requirements:
- Metal fabrication work environment; dust, grease and metal common
- Requires the use of the following personal protective equipment when on the shop floor:
- Safety glasses, steel toed shoes/boots.
Must be able to:
- Work safely in a fast-paced environment
- Work overtime, including weekends as requested.
