What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Systems Engineering Manager position at Dimplex Thermal Solutions?
The primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Systems Engineering Manager are to lead the system engineers in the design of process cooling refrigerant systems for OEM and custom chiller designs, create and maintain a system modeling database of typical components and system models, and monitor and plan for future regulatory changes regarding refrigerants and their effect on current production models.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers in the design of chiller refrigerant and plumbing systems
- Oversee the design and creation of plumbing and refrigeration specifications and related schematic diagrams
- Lead the team in researching and sourcing key refrigerant and plumbing components.
- Estimate system costs and manage system BOMs
- Oversee engineering changes of current chiller systems for cost improvements, standardization and regulatory changes
- Interact with other departments to resolve issues and to implement improvements
- Positively contribute to the engineering process and develop alternatives that allow the company to deliver consistently high-quality products and solutions to our customers
- Define and improve engineering-related processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Accredited 4-year bachelor’s degree in mechanical, automotive or aeronautical Engineering
- Master’s degree preferred
- 7 years of experience in refrigerant system design and development
- 3 yrs leading teams and/or managing 3-5 people
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational, planning and scheduling skills
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Proactive thinker who sees potential improvements and takes action.
- Experience with manufacturing, and designing for manufacturing and assembly
- Experience with CAD and PDM tools
- Experience in system modelling (Dymola, Modelon impact, Modelica, etc) preferred
- Basic understanding of UL and CE requirements for electrical components, such as compressors, pumps and motorized valves preferred
- Basic understanding of refrigerants, GWP ratings and related government regulations preferred
- Customer-focused mindset to deliver quality designs that meet customer specs with the best total cost in mind.

- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to stand, bend, lift and move intermittently; move equipment and supplies as necessary for job function
- Ability to withstand extended exposure to a computer monitor, which may at times be straining on the eyes.
