The Principal Network Architect is responsible for designing secure, scalable, reliable, and low latency network architectures for the U.S. Census Bureau’s cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring compliance with federal security standards such as NIST 800-53 and FISMA. The primary focus for this individual will be to support the following areas:

- Network Architecture and Design
- Security Architecture and Design
- Unified Communications Architecture and Design
- Audio/Visual Architecture and Design
- This position is dependent upon contract award. Selected candidate must be within a commutable distance of Suitland, MD.*
- Provide high-level architectural expertise to managers and technical staff.
- Develop architectural products and deliverables for the enterprise and operational business lines in accordance with the strategy and goals of the organization.
- Develop strategy of system and the design infrastructure necessary to support that strategy.
- Advise on selection of technological purchases with regards to processing, data storage, data access, and applications development.
- Sets standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization (SQL, ORACLE, SYBASE, etc.).
- Advise of feasibility of potential future projects to management.
- Track current plans.
- Monitor and review the success of systems and ensures efficiency and effectiveness.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in network engineering and architecture design.
- Knowledge of NIST 800-53, FISMA, and federal security standards.
- US Citizen with active Public Trust
- Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Systems Tools Familiarity: Remedy, Cisco ACI, Palo Alto, AWS VPC, Azure Networking
- Experience managing network architecture projects for the U.S. Census Bureau or similar federal agencies.
- Knowledge of USCB’s network and security policies, data protection standards, and risk management practices.
- Desired Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Engineer (CCIE), Cisco Certified Architect (CCAR), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialty, or similar certifications.
