Duty Schedule:
Complete teaching an in-person 3-credit hour course "NIS-111" in the summer for CONBOY project participants.
Summary/Objective of Position:
To teach NIS-111 "Foundations of Navajo Culture" to CONBOY project participants during the summer's first 5 weeks of session. Make the course easily understandable for the mixed group of students from Junior High (8th graders transitioning to high school), high school, and Diné College undergrads, focusing on keeping them connected with their roots while learning concepts of Biomedical sciences.
Description of Essential Functions of the Position

The position description and duties include essential functions and they are:
- To adhere to the institution's high standards supporting its integrity in compliance with accreditation requirements.
- To observe and comply with the College's Personnel policy and procedures.
- Assist the Project Director (PI) in achieving the goals of project "CONVOY" by creating a bridge between traditional knowledge and modern health science, and creating appropriate communication among participants as needed.
- Help eligible students get dual credits as appropriate through their participation in this course.
- Assist PI and Admin Assistant in maintaining a filing system for the CONBOY project, documents, students, their participation, success ratio, end of the course/program survey, and correspondence to ensure effective communication, organization, and flow through the college system in a timely manner.
- Maintains general operations by using office software such as MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and other College software to support tracking of Project participants and their success.
- Assist the CONVOY Director in matters related to the project as and when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
- A qualified Navajo elder/Medicine man/woman with a detailed traditional background.
Preferred:
- An academic degree MS/PhD Along with traditional and cultural knowledge will be preferred.
Knowledge:
- A comprehensive knowledge of the basic values of Diné society, past and present, including the clan system, philosophy of duality, oral narratives, and symbolic interpretations.
- Able to instruct in Navajo and English languages simultaneously.
Skills:
- Must have high interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, administration, parents, project team, and the general public.
- Must be able to learn and utilize the institution's CANVAS portals.
- Can give an overview and basic knowledge about traditional skills like shoe making, basket weaving, singing, etc.
Abilities:
- A person who can create a love for traditions and culture among these young minds.
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
- Must be able to work in an office setting but also exposed to warehouse/repair shop environment.
- Physical requirements are not limited to lifting up to ten pounds.
Other Requirement(s):
- Oral fluency in both Navajo and English is highly desirable.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
