Duty Schedule:
Flexible Hours: Monday-Friday. Monday, January 27 to Friday, May 9, 2025.
Summary/Objective of Position:
2025 Spring Semester Student Interns in PUH 497 (Public Health Research Methods Practicum) will participate in the 15-week program of scheduled activities, classroom instruction, and research project internship resulting in a research presentation to faculty, students, and research mentors.

- All participants will participate in scheduled activities, not limited to:
- all activities in the classroom and those scheduled by research mentors,
- work with faculty and in educational and training activities,
- attend presentations and lectures related to primary and secondary in public health.
- Participate in field placement in an ongoing research or public health agency.
- Produce and present a presentation in an ongoing research or public health agency.
- Record keeping:
- keep a record of all classroom and practicum activities, as appropriate.
- maintain records from the completion of projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
Satisfactory grade in PUH 490 - Public Health Research Methods.
Preferred:
Be in final semester of BPH program, ready to graduate in May 2025.
Knowledge:
- basic Biology and Community Health Issues,
- to promote self-awareness, academic development/achievement, knowledge, and skills, and seek academic counseling as needed,
- have knowledge of wordprocessing and other standard office software,
- have knowledge of statistical software, such as Jamovi,
- data analysis skills as taught in Statistics, Epidemiology, and Public Health Research Methods.
Skills:
- oral fluency in Navajo highly desires but not required,
- ability to demonstrate a considerable degree of fluency in speaking and writing in English,
- ability to comprehend an implement technical theories and applications.
Abilities:
- ability to work with staff, faculty, and research mentors from diverse backgrounds,
- ability to follow instructions and work independently,
- ability to adhere to the Student Code of Conduct.
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
- most activities will require long periods of sitting at a computer to complete projects or study,
- must be able to cope with being in a rural, hot, dry climate as found on Navajo Nation,
- must be able to, at least some work remotely through internet connections, Zoom, and similar means.
